UCLA Faculty Approves Undergraduate Diversity Course Requirement

As reported by the Los Angeles Times, the faculty of UCLA’s College of Letters and Sciences voted in favor of requiring future undergraduates to take one course exposing them to ethnic, cultural, religious or gender diversity. Two other faculty and administrative review panels must approve the requirement before it can go into effect, currently proposed to start 2015 for freshman and 2017 for transfer students. M. Belinda Tucker, Vice Provost of the Institute of American Cultures and co-chair of the diversity initiative that brought the requirement to a vote, is quoted in the Times story.
