  • Yvonne Carrillo, Department of Sociology

Yvonne Carrillo is a PhD student in the sociology department. She studies housing conditions of low-income Latino immigrant mobile home owners in Coachella Valley. Her research also explores how environmental hazards in rural areas impact immigrant health. She uses a robust methodology and aims to advocate for better housing and immigration policies. Carrillo is the recipient of a 2025-26 Insitute of American Cultures predoctoral fellowship hosted by the CSRC.

  • Bryan Cantero, Department of Chicana/o and Central American Studies

Bryan Cantero is a PhD student in the Chicana/o and Central American studies department. His research focus is on urban music that reflects Black and Brown solidarity in Los Angeles, focusing on corridos and hip-hop as tools for identity formation, collaboration, and resistance. Cantero is the recipient of a 2025-26 Insitute of American Cultures predoctoral fellowship hosted by the CSRC.

  • Kevin Kandamby, Department of Chicana/o and Central American Studies

Kevin is a PhD student in the Chicana/o and Central American studies department. He studies the lived experiences of Asian Latines in California, focusing on their growing population, identity navigation, and self-representation. His research contributes to racial formation literature within ethnic studies. Kandamby is the recipient of a 2025-26 Insitute of American Cultures predoctoral fellowship hosted by the CSRC.
