Dos Frutas Del Mismo Árbol

Curated by Brenda and Yvette Trujillo

February 18 - May 30, 2025

In the library and vitrine

Rooted in shared experiences, Dos Frutas del Mismo Árbol captures the intertwined journey of two sisters, Brenda and Yvette Trujillo. As Chicanas and creatives, the Trujillos' work is deeply influenced by their upbringing in Los Angeles, where their parents, who migrated from Mexico in the early 1980s, shaped their lives and artistic vision.

Through different mediums that are sourced from the soil, such as clay and pigments, the Trujillos explore the complex layers of family, memories, and identity. The symbolism embedded in their sculptures and paintings speak to the influences and adversities that shaped them, drawing from a rich cultural background that merges tradition with contemporary expression. Similar to the branches of a tree growing in different directions, they often find themselves on their own individual paths.

This exhibition is a dialogue with the artists, their past, their present, and the evolving story of who they are as daughters and sisters and in their connection through art.
