Joseph K. Lyou: "Experiences of an Environmental Justice Advocate"
Dr. Lyou is the President and CEO of the Coalition for Clean Air, a California-based public interest advocacy organization dedicated to defending the public’s right to breathe clean air. Dr. Lyou also serves as the Governor’s Appointee to the South Coast Air Quality Management District Governing Board. The South Coast AQMD is the government agency responsible for air quality for more than 16 million people living in Orange County and the urban portions of Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. Prior to this, he was Executive Director for the California Environmental Rights Alliance, whose organizational goals include raising awareness about environmental health and justice issues, (2) building a broad-based and engaged community of environmental health and justice advocates empowered to influence environmental decisions; and (3) holding government officials accountable for decisions that impact efforts to achieve environmental health and justice. Dr. Lyou holds a Ph.D. in Social Psychology.
