Screening: "Monsters"
What better way to end the quarter than watching a U.S.-Mexico sci-fi border film? Join CSRC visiting scholar Celestino Deleyto, professor of film studies and literature at University of Zaragoza, for a screening and discussion of Monsters (Gareth Edwards, 2010), a low-budget, independent film set in an “infected zone” in northern Mexico that is populated by extraterrestrial aliens. Mixing science fiction, road movie, war film, and even romantic comedy conventions, Monsters provides an uncanny – and perhaps unintentional – commentary as a U.S. couple attempt to cross the border in order to return to their country. Is it science or is it fiction? Come watch and let us know what you think
