Exhibition: "Community, Love, and Joy: 2 Years of East LA's Queer Mercado"

Event Date:
Saturday, July 15, 2023 -
10:00am to 4:00pm
Event Location:
East L.A. Civic Center, 4801 E. 3rd St., Los Angeles, CA 90022

Born from a call to action for LGBTQ visibility in East L.A, since summer of 2021 the Queer Mercado has provided a space for queer community to flourish. As a community-run marketplace, the Queer Mercado’s mission is to uplift and celebrate LGBTQ people by fostering an environment where LGBTQ people have access to economic opportunities.

In celebration of the two-year anniversary of the Queer Mercado, on July 15 the CSRC and Cal State LA's Cross Cultural Centers will collaborate on an exhibit showcasing photographs, planning documents, and other print materials, as well as an award, demonstrating the positive role the Queer Mercado has played for the East L.A queer community. CSRC lent archival expertise to the exhibition, while Cal State LA's Cross Cultural Centers assisted in printing materials and community engagement. Items will be displayed on multiple tables.

Jocelyne Sanchez, Latina Futures graduate fellow, is assisting the project on behalf of the CSRC.
