Book Talk: Robert Chao Romero presents "Brown Church: Five Centuries of Latina/o Social Justice, Theology, and Identity"

Please join us online when Robert Chao Romero, associate professor of Chicana/o and Central American Studies at UCLA, presents his new book Brown Church: Five Centuries of Latina/o Social Justice, Theology, and Identity (InterVarsity Press, 2020). For centuries, Latina/o culture and identity has been shaped by challenges to the religious, socio-economic, and political status quo, whether in opposition to Spanish colonialism, Latin American dictatorships, US imperialism in Central America, the oppression of farmworkers, or the current exploitation of undocumented immigrants. Brown Church looks to the role Christianity has played in that movement. Professor Romero will be introduced by Genevieve Carpio and joined by panelists Marisol Sánchez Castillo, Daniel Solórzano, and Charlene Villaseñor Black. A Q&A with the audience will follow the discussion.
