We are proud to present Dr. Karin Nielsen, MD, Professor, Clinic Pediatrics, UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine and Director, Center for Brazilian Studies, UCLA Latin American Institute. Nielsen is the lead author of an article recently published in the New England Journal of Medicine showing that the Zika virus is responsible for many serious fetal abnormalities in addition to microcephaly. She is actively investigating the Zika epidemic as part of a team of experts at the Fiocruz Institute in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
