2013 CSRC Latina/o Education Summit: Fisher v. Texas - Implications for Latina/o Educational Diversity
The UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center (CSRC), in cooperation with the UCLA School of Law, presents the eighth annual Latina/o Education Summit. This year’s summit will address the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2013 ruling in Fisher v. Texas and its national implications for Chicanos and Latinos and higher education. Affirmative action and educational diversity will be the focus of discussion; speakers will include scholars of constitutional law, social scientists, and those who administer university admissions policies.
The summit will be hosted by Chon A. Noriega, Director, Chicano Studies Research Center and Professor of Film, Television, and Digital Media, UCLA. Rachel F. Moran, Dean and Michael J. Connell Professor of Law, UCLA School of Law, will be the keynote speaker.
Previous Latina/o Education Summits have looked at Chicano/Latino education relative to gaps in the education pipeline, school funding issues, and the challenges and responsibilities of serving undocumented students. Summits have also explored approaches to educating Chicano/Latino students that recognize language and cultural differences as assets to schools. The 2012 summit, Law & Policy: Conversations Across the Disciplines, focused broadly on litigation and legislation that relate to Chicanos/Latinos across the country.
Due to limited seating, reservations are required and must be received by Friday, September 20, 2013, at https://2013latinoeducationsummit.eventbrite.com
