Efraín Gutiérrez’s landmark independent feature, added in 2015 to the National Film Registry, offers an in-depth look at 1970s-era South Texas Chicano culture. Its central character questions his place in a society that undervalues Latinos while so many Latinos are being killed in the Vietnam War.

On October 19, CSRC director Chon A. Noriega will participate in the discussion "What is Power?", part of the UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture public conversation and academic class series "10 Questions: Reckoning," Noriega will be joined by Jemima Pierre, associate professor of African American studies and anthropology, and William Boyd, scholar, environmental advocate and professor of law.
