On May 6, 2014 the Getty Foundation announced $5 million in research grants given to arts institutions across Southern California for research and planning of an ambitious exploration of Latin American and Latino art called Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA. On March 30, 2016 another $8.5 million in exhibition implementation grants were announced. Scheduled to open in September 2017, the new collaboration will present over fifty exhibitions and programs in venues from San Diego to Santa Barbara. The UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center (CSRC) is one of five planning partners for this initiative.
For Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA, the CSRC received major support for the exhibition Home—So Different, So Appealing on view June 11- October 15, 2017 and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Home will feature works from the 1950s to the present by U.S. Latino and Latin American artists exploring the idea of “home.” The CSRC is collaborating on two additional exhibitions for PST: LA/LA: LA RAZA, opening September 16 at the Autry Museum of the American West, and Laura Aguilar: Show and Tell on view September 16, 2017 - February 10, 2018 at the Vincent Price Art Museum at East Los Angeles College.
