Aztlán: A Journal of Chicano Studies
Aztlán presents original research that is relevant to or informed by the Chicano experience. An interdisciplinary, refereed journal, Aztlán focuses on scholarly essays in the humanities, social sciences, and arts, supplemented by thematic pieces in the dosier section, an artist’s communiqué, a review section, and a commentary by the editor, Chon A. Noriega. Aztlán seeks ways to bring Chicano studies into critical dialogue with Latino, ethnic, American, and global studies. Aztlán has been the leading journal in the field of Chicano studies since 1970. Aztlán is issued twice a year. Current Issue The Spring 2009 issue opens with an assessment of how the silent Western film relates to the discourse on Mexican American citizenship. Essayists in this issue examine Chicana/o identity and representation in regard to nationality, sexuality, and ethnicity and evaluate the Chicana/o experience by drawing on empirical research. This issue features two dossier sections: "The Archive," a look at archival material recently made available at Mexico's Archivo Histórico del Instituto Nacional de Migración, and "Memory and Response," which reflects on the rich intellectual landscape of Chicano and Latino cultural and politcal expression. In the artist's communiqué and on the cover, José Lozano presents his distinctive depiction of social interaction in a Chicano community. Order Reprints through Copyright Clearance Center
