CSRC Cinema and Media Art Series

Historic Chicano films are now available through the UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center! The Chicano Cinema and Media Arts Series was launched in April 2004 to showcase important and rare Chicano films and videos.

You are welcome to view our upcoming DVDs, to view a list of all DVDs to date, to read reviews about the DVDs, to see where they are being exhibited, to find guidelines for artists wishing to submit a film to the series, as well as information for those interested in buying from or subscribing to the series. If you have any questions, please email us at the press.

The first DVD documents two pivotal art exhibitions in Los Angeles (Los Four and Murals of Aztlán). The second and third documents 1980s and 1990s early ?conceptual dramas? directed by internationally recognized writer and visual artist Harry Gamboa Jr., cofounder of the Chicano art group ASCO. The fourth DVD is a border mockumentary titled Frontierland/ Frontierlandia by Ruben Ortiz and Jesse Lerner. These works?with the originals archived in the CSRC Special Collections?have been restored and are being made available for the first time.

The CSRC was also responsible for the famous Aztlan Film Institute's Top 100 List of best American films.

You can buy all our DVDs at the CSRC Online Store. You can also buy some of our DVDs at Filmfresh or Frameline.

Institutional pricing for videos comes with limited public performance rights--that is, for non-commercial educational and public uses. If users charge admission, these are not included in the rights--the institution must have a prior agreement regarding a percentage of the revenue.
