Event Date:
Friday, April 18, 2014 (All day) to Friday, April 25, 2014 (All day)
Event Location:
Web Event

Fire up your computers and mobile devices for a day of online gaming that will enhance global access to the CSRC’s digital library collections. The CSRC has partnered with Tiltfactor (@tiltfactor), a game research lab at Dartmouth College, and contributed over 600 images from the Nancy Tovar Collection of East L.A. Murals to the Lab’s newest project, Metadata Games (http://www.metadatagames.org/#games).

Metadata Games is a fun, addictive platform for collecting descriptive metadata for digitized, archival material. This NEH-funded initiative recognizes that archives have a dual mission to gather and preserve, while also ensuring and facilitating access to material. The CSRC is proud to be a part of this project, which explores how digital tools enhance the archival experience, and how technology and crowds can help solve challenges archivists face in presenting and promoting the material they curate.

The Nancy Tovar Collection of East L.A. Murals will debut as the featured collection on the Metadata Games site for 24 hours starting Friday, April 18, 12:01 a.m. (PST). The collection contains a broad selection of material in a variety of urban settings sure to appeal to a wide range of viewers. So jump on, play the games, and contribute your own unique tags to each image you see! The more people who tag, the more searchable and accessible this remarkable photographic collection will become!

The Nancy Tovar Collection of East L.A. Murals will continue to be available on the site to tag to your heart's content after the 24-hour period but don’t miss out on its featured appearance! More games, more metadata!
