LA Art Show - Opening Night Premiere Party (with special performance by Raphael Montañez Ortiz)
The LA Art Show is the premiere event for experiencing, collecting, sharing, and purchasing art. In its 22nd year, the 2017 show has refined its focus creating a freshly curated fair offering visitor and collectors a new hosted art experience devoted to Modern and Contemporary art. The show continues to evolve in a new and exciting direction reflecting how LA is making its mark as rising world- class destination for art. Galleries will be exhibiting painting, sculpture, work on paper, installation, photography, performance, and video works for sale.
To kick off the event, the opening night gala will be an evening of creativity and philanthropy. Featuring art, music, a variety of beverages, delicious hors d'oeuvres from over 20 select LA Restaurants, and a special performance by destructivist artist Raphael Montañez Ortiz. The performance is part of the programming series "Fragments from Home" curated by CSRC director Chon A. Noriega and presented by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).
Couch Destruction: Angel Release (Pennies from Heaven)
An Upholstered Chair with a digital projection of a Guardian Angel onto the Chair held there by the Auric Energy of the family that relaxed in the Chair for many Years and upon purchase of a new Upholstered Chair left it on their front curb as discarded Furniture… Trapped by the Guardian Angels devotion to the Families Auric Energy absorbed in the stuffing of the furniture the Guardian Angel can only be released from the Chair by a Destruction that as it releases the Chair from its structure as a Chair tears open all the Stuffing of the Chair Freeing the Angel as the Auric Energy absorbed in the chairs stuffing is released and the identity of the Chair as a Chair is released… The performance begins with creation of a Salt Circle around the Circular Arena within which the Couch will be destroyed to release the Angel. Persons in the Audience will be selected for Participation in the Freeing of the Guardian Angel Couch is both destructed with cutting tools and physically pulled apart until Couch releases the Angel which is confirmed when the Angel projection entirely fades from the Couch.
