IAC Fall Forum 2026
You are invited to the UCLA Institute of American Cultures (IAC) annual Fall Forum, featuring 2026–27 Postdoctoral Scholars and center representatives from UCLA’s four ethnic studies research centers. This virtual event will feature a live Q&A.
• Balraj Gill, Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellow at the American Indian Studies Center, “Who Decides?: Indigenous Governance, Colonial Usurpation, and Carceral Control.” Dr. Gill will be interviewed by Shannon Speed, Professor of Gender Studies and Anthropology.
• Sophia Armen, Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellow at the Asian American Studies Center, “Community Amidst & Against Genocide: Thinking Across Critical Refugee Studies and SWANA-American Studies.” Dr. Armen will be interviewed by Natalie Masuoka, Professor of Political Science and Asian American Studies.
• Jessica Shotwell, Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellow at the Ralph J. Bunche Center for African American Studies, “Intersectionality in and Beyond the Academy.” Dr. Shotwell will be interviewed by Courtney S. Thomas-Tobin, Associate Professor of Community Health Sciences.
• Carolina Sarmiento, Associate Professor of Civil Society & Community Studies, University of Wisconsin-Madison and UCLA Latina Futures 2050 Lab Fellow, “Domestic Workers and Emerging Struggles for Labor Justice.” Dr. Sarmiento will be interviewed by Magally Miranda, Research Analyst at the UCLA Labor Center and Postdoctoral Fellow at LA Commons/USC SLAB Lab.
The panel will be moderated by César Oyervides-Cisneros, Senior Administrator of Campus Initiatives, UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center.
