A Celebration of the Birth of Ruben Salazar

The CSRC invites you to participate in a celebration of the birthday of late journalist Ruben Salazar, taking place at California State University–Los Angeles. As part of the program, CSRC librarian Lizette Guerra will briefly highlight a related collection housed at the CSRC Library: the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Investigative Files Pertaining to the Death of Ruben Salazar. Materials from the collection were used in the making of the documentary Ruben Salazar: Man in the Middle, which will be screened at the event.

FILM SCREENING

Time: 3 p.m.

Location: University-Student Union Theater

The documentary “Ruben Salazar: Man in the Middle” examines the life and mysterious death of pioneering journalist Rubén Salazar. At the heart of the story is Salazar’s transformation from mainstream establishment reporter, to primary chronicler and supporter of the radical Chican@ Movement of the late 1960s.  Directed by Phillip Rodriguez, 2014, 53 minutes.

CELEBRATION

TIme: 4:30 p.m.

Location: University-Student Union Los Angeles Room

Following the film screening, there will be a celebration of the life of Ruben Salazar.  Join in for the refreshments, music, and tributes to Salazar’s accomplishments.
