CSRC Arts Internship |

The Getty Foundation has awarded a grant to fund the UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center Summer Arts Internship. Responsibilities This internship will expose the intern to all aspects of archival processing while concentrating on a few specific projects related to the arts, and that will make materials accessible for the CSRC exhibition project through the Getty's Pacific Standard Time Initiative. This exhibition project explores the contributions of Mexican American artists and Chicano arts organization in Los Angeles from 1945 - 80. The intern will work on several collections that can be completed during the internship period. Every effort will be made to match the interns with collections related to their interests in the arts. In addition, the intern will have opportunities to meet and work with the artist(s) and exhibition curators as part of their assigned duties. Interns will work under the supervision and guidance of the CSRC Archivist and Archives Manager. Duties will include processing and documenting Chicano arts materials according to professional archival standards, preparation of digital materials for online access, and related research support for exhibition artists and curators. Please address inquiries to: Dr. Francisco Javier Iribarren, CSRC Assistant Director: jiribarren@chicano.ucla.edu Qualifications This internship is intended for members of groups underrepresented in the professions related to museums and the visual arts: individuals of African American, Asian, Latino, Native American, and Pacific Islander descent. Intern candidates can be sought from all areas of undergraduate study and are not required to have demonstrated a previous commitment to the visual arts. However, candidates for the CSRC internship should preferably have previous experience in Latina/o art and/or archiving experience. In addition, each intern candidate must meet the following eligibility criteria:

Application Process In order to be considered, candidates are to submit a letter describing their undergraduate status, the college that they are attending, their college experience thus far, and when they will complete their degree (see criteria #1 - #3 above). The letter should describe the candidate's qualifications, life experience, work-related experience, and knowledge of Latina/o art. Include a current resume or curriculum vitae with all contact information (current address, telephone, e-mail). List two faculty who can be contacted for references.
