Talk: "At Home in America: Artist Dialogues"

Event Date:
Saturday, June 10, 2017 - 1:00pm
Event Location:
Los Angeles County Museum of Art - Bing Theater

In anticipation of the exhibition Home—So Different, So Appealing, a CSRC-organized exhibition for Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA, LACMA will host a series of dialogues discussing the ongoing place of home in contemporary art, public culture, and social relations. Featuring Laura Aguilar, Carmen Argote, Christina Fernandez, Ramiro Gomez, María Elena González, Salomón Huerta, Daniel Joseph Martinez, Camilo Ontiveros, and Raphael Montañez Ortiz.

Daniel Joseph Martinez and Maria Elena Gonzalez in conversation with CSRC director Chon Noriega and Pilar Tompkins Rivas. These two artists are among Home’s most established and do work that ranges from installation to public art.

Raphael Montañez Ortiz and Carmen Argote in conversation with Chon Noriega. Home’s most senior artist with one of the exhibit’s most junior. Their work engages their own homes, one in the 1960s, the other in the 2010s. We'll explore the use of one's own home, and family, in relation to art that explores built space, public ritual, and repressed histories.

Group discussion moderated by Pilar Tompkins Rivas with Salomón Huerta, Camilo Ontiveros, Ramiro Gomez, Christina Fernandez, and Laura Aguilar. The panel will give a distinctly LA (and LA-Mexico) focus to the subject of home.
