Blum Center Inaugural Symposium: "Informing Responses to Reduce Poverty and Improve Health in Latin America"

The UCLA Blum Center on Poverty and Health in Latin America will conduct its Spring Symposium to advance knowledge on efforts aimed at creating more equitable health in Latin America. This day-long symposium titled "Informing Responses to Reduce Poverty and Improve Health in Latin America" will feature panel discussions and dialogue presented by UCLA faculty from across disciplines and other experts who address emerging and unsolved issues related to poverty and health in Latin America. The symposium will offer opportunities for multidisciplinary education and collaboration among students, faculty, and community members.
 
KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Jaime Sepulveda, MD, DSc, MPH, an expert on health outcomes in Latin America, will be the symposium's keynote speaker. Dr. Sepulveda is currently the executive director of UCSF Global Health Sciences and professor of Epidemiology at UCSF.
 
Students and faculty from all disciplines as well as community leaders who work in the areas of social determinants of health for Latin American populations are invited to attend. Approximately 200 participants are expected to participate. This event is FREE.
 
Objectives:

-To analyze the social determinants that contribute to health inequities in Latin America

-To convene faculty and scholars for multidisciplinary exchanges on different responses to health inequity in Latin America

-To understand and promote innovative solutions that address poverty and health inequality in Latin America

-To identify important policy and programmatic responses to address social determinants of health in Latin America
