CSRC Opportunities

For interested UCLA students, the center has staff and volunteer positions in the CSRC Library, the administrative offices, and research projects. If interested, please contact Associate Director Carlos Manuel Haro, Ph.D.

  • The CSRC Library has volunteers and staff, under the supervision of the Librarian, including library studies internships (for students who can receive credit from their Library Studies program), undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in different functions of the unit and may want to learn how to better use information and data resources, and friends of the Library (non-students). Volunteers and interns may assist with library management, book acquisition and cataloguing, reference services, and work on archival collections. There are a range of special collections that would be of interest to students in the humanities, social sciences and the arts. Contact the Librarian, Dr. Yolanda Retter-Vargas, directly if you can volunteer time in the Library or with our special collections. Dr. Retter-Vargas is at (310) 206-6052 or e-mail at yretter@chicano.ucla.edu
  • CSRC Community and Academic Relations accepts student volunteers to assist with planning and implementing faculty exchanges/presentations, graduate student presentations, forums, special events and conferences, both on and off campus, that allow for the dissemination of knowledge in Chicano Studies and promote the partnership between the Chicano Studies Research Center and community groups and agencies. This would include the UCLA Partnership Project with Self-Help Graphics, an archival project of Chicano art.
  • The CSRC Administrative Office accepts volunteers to work on its research projects in a range of functions, from working on proposals to assisting faculty and visiting postdoctoral fellows with the implementation of research projects. Volunteers also contribute by assisting with office management and information services at the main office. Some students who join faculty on their research projects may also arrange to receive independent studies credit with the professor as part of their volunteer contributions to the research project (this requires completion of specified course requirements). There are a number of paid student office and research positions. Office and research assistants are part time positions and are filled by UCLA students.
